In SOTU, Obama Shows the Contentious Liberal He Truly Is - John Blosser

Obama "is more interested in politics than in leadership," former, and likely future, Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney told Bloomberg News. "More intent on winning elections than on winning progress. He ignores the fact that the country has elected a Congress that favors smaller government and lower taxes."

President Barack Obama ripped off his mask in his sixth State of the Union address, revealing himself as the contentious, full-out liberal he truly is, and intends to remain, for his last two years in office.
"He demanded a slate of progressive policies and offered no sign that he was ready to roll over and surrender to a Republican Congress," The Atlantic commented.

The Washington Post, in an article noting that Obama committed "to cementing a liberal legacy," noted that he embraced his liberal label as never before, reciting a litany of higher-tax intentions that have little chance of passage in a Republican-dominated Congress and seem guaranteed to ensure two more years of political battles and stalemate.

Obama is seeking $320 billion over the next year in new, higher taxes aimed at the wealthy and large finance firms, to pay for free community college tuition for qualified students "lower the cost of community college to zero," paid leave for working parents and paid sick leave for workers.

He urged an increase in the minimum wage, making child care more affordable and a tax cut of up to $3,000 per child per year, NPR noted.

He promised vetoes on any bill that limits Obamacare, his executive action on granting immigration amnesty to up to 5 million illegal aliens, negotiations with Iran and Wall Street reform measures.

Taking a shot at Republican efforts to pass legislation allowing construction of the Keystone pipeline, which he opposes, Obama said, "So let's set our sights higher than a single oil pipeline. Let's pass a bipartisan infrastructure plan that could create more than thirty times as many jobs per year, and make this country stronger for decades to come."

He set in stone his identity as a believer in man-caused climate change, pushing for carbon limits and a global climate deal, and restated his intention to shut down Guantanamo Bay.
He termed same-sex marriage a "civil right' and, for the first time in any State of the Union speech, used the word "transgender," along with lesbian, gay and bisexual.

Obama did more than merely duck the phrase of "Islamic terrorist"; he stated that the "vast majority" of Muslims "share our commitment to peace" and that we "reject offensive stereotypes of Muslims."

Obama "is more interested in politics than in leadership," former, and likely future, Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney told Bloomberg News. "More intent on winning elections than on winning progress. He ignores the fact that the country has elected a Congress that favors smaller government and lower taxes."

Former Arkansas Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee commented, "After growing our national debt by $7.5 trillion dollars since taking office, it's ridiculous for the president to propose $320 billion dollars in new taxes," Bloomberg reported.

Likely presidential contender and Florida's former Republican Gov. Jeb Bush told Bloomberg, "I hope President Obama will be mindful of the strong message American voters sent in November and will work with our new Congressional majority on achieving solutions we know have broad-based appeal."
